The Federal Fire Service, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States Zonal office has warned people of the region to take all safety measures as Nigeria approaches harmattan season. This is as the fire service was asked to improve their awareness on safety measures on prevention of fire and protection on being the first responder. The command also revealed that the zonal office of Federal Fire Service has been situated in Osogbo adding that Osun State Government has provided land for the service. This was made known by the Public Relations Officer for the zone, DSF Adijat Basiri during a visit to the Asiwaju Tunde Badmus in his house in Osogbo on Friday. According to Basiri, the people are the first firefighters and always take preventive measures. And as we are planning towards our safety week we are planning to not just capture the adults but to also capture the youth of Osun State by bringing schools together, teaching them the basics required both the theoretical and practical aspect and we believe these youths are going to be the custodian and user of this knowledge. Climate has a lot to do with fire and we are always taking that into cognizance as we earlier said usually December month as a result of harmattan, the hot season we usually experience large amounts of fire outbreaks due to carelessness. As the weather becomes hot, the leaves are dry then we are more prone to fire outbreaks, she said. While speaking, Tunde Badmus lauded the fire service for their works and sacrifices adding that his door is always open for the service of the society. He, however, asked the command to improve their awareness on safety measures on prevention of fire and protection on being the first responder. I salute the men of firefighters for their service; as much as the service needs to improve their awareness of the safety measures on prevention of fire, he said.
