In a new gesture against Huawei's participation in the future 5G market, the Jair Bolsonaro government declared support for the Clean Network, an American initiative on network security that aims to limit the Chinese presence in the sector. The announcement took place in Brasilia during a visit by Keith Krach, undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment of the US Department of State. "Brazil supports the principles contained in the Clean Network proposal made by the USA, including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The proposal aims to promote, in the context of 5G and other new technologies, a safe, transparent, and compatible environment with democratic values and fundamental freedoms," said Secretary of Bilateral and Regional Negotiations in the Americas, Ambassador Pedro Miguel Costa e Silva. Clean Network is the name of the American plan to exclude the Chinese giant from 5G technology infrastructure in several countries - the auction in Brazil is scheduled for next year. Krach pointed out that several countries worldwide endorse the principles of the Clean Network, but that Brazil is the first Latin American to endorse the alliance's values formally.
