A FIFA chief has admitted that it is now 'impossible' for sporting events to be held without taking the environment into account. FIFA head of sustainability and environment Federico Addiechi spoke at a European Parliament sports group panel discussion in which he acknowledged the global governing body's responsibility when it comes to . He also insisted that sustainability is something that FIFA or any other sporting body would have to factor in when it comes to holding an event During the meeting he said: '(It's now) impossible for sustainability not to be an integral and major part of any bid for sporting events going forward.' Addiechi also insisted that FIFA have a 'three-fold responsbility' when it comes to climate change. He said FIFA need to identify realistic and ambitious plans towards a net zero path in 2040.
